The water heaters I repair in Fuengirola
Electric water heaters (termos)
The storage termo most apartments here rely on — water held in a tank and heated by an element. I fix heating elements, thermostats, the sacrificial anode and reset faults, in sizes from 50 to 200 litres.
Mains gas water heaters
Instant gas calentadores that heat on demand. Common faults are ignition, the gas valve, the burner and a pilot that won’t stay lit — all diagnosed and put right safely.
Bottled gas (butano / propano)
Plenty of older Fuengirola flats still run on a butane or propane bottle. I service and repair these too, and can tell you honestly when switching makes sense.
Solar & thermosiphon
Solar hot-water systems are common on the Costa del Sol. I repair the cylinder, valves and backup heating so you keep the savings without the cold showers.
Common water heater faults — and what they mean
Electric heaters (termos)
- No hot water at all, or only lukewarm
- Hot water runs out far quicker than it used to
- The heater keeps tripping the differential (breaker)
- Water leaking or pooling under the tank
- The safety valve drips constantly
- Rusty, cloudy or smelly hot water
Gas heaters (calentadores)
- The heater won’t light, or there’s no spark
- It lights, then shuts off after a short while
- The flame keeps going out on its own
- Water won’t get hot enough
- It cuts in and out while you’re using it
- Water leaking from the unit
Recognise any of these? Call me and describe what’s happening — I’ll usually have a good idea what’s wrong before I arrive.

Looking after your water heater
A little upkeep goes a long way — especially here, where the hard water on the Costa del Sol is tough on heaters. A few simple things keep yours running longer:
- check_circle Have the sacrificial anode checked — in hard water it wears out, and once it’s gone the tank starts to corrode
- check_circle Flush out sediment and limescale so the heater isn’t working harder than it needs to
- check_circle Keep an eye on the safety / pressure valve — a constant drip means it needs attention
- check_circle On gas heaters, keep the flue and burner clear and have them checked periodically
If limescale is the real problem, I can also help with pipe descaling to protect the rest of your plumbing.

Water heater repair — your questions
Do you repair both electric and gas water heaters?
expand_more
Yes — I work on both electric water heaters (the termos most apartments here have) and gas water heaters (calentadores), across most major brands you’ll find in Spain, such as Junkers, Ariston, Cointra, Thermor and Fagor.
Is it worth repairing my water heater, or should I replace it?
expand_more
It depends on the unit’s age and the cost of the fix. As a rough guide, if a heater is well over ten years old or the repair would cost more than about half the price of a new one, replacing it is usually the smarter choice. I’ll always give you my honest opinion either way.
Why is my water heater not heating?
expand_more
On an electric heater it’s often a failed heating element or thermostat, a tripped breaker or a tripped reset button. On a gas heater it’s usually the pilot, the ignition or the gas valve. I diagnose the real cause first rather than just swapping parts and hoping.
How long does a water heater repair take?
expand_more
Many repairs are done within the same visit, especially common faults like a thermostat or heating element. Some depend on a specific part being available — if that’s the case, I’ll tell you upfront when I can have it sorted.
Why does my hot water run out so quickly, or only go lukewarm?
expand_more
Usually a faulty thermostat, a worn heating element, or sediment and limescale building up inside the tank — something we see a lot of in this hard-water area. A proper diagnosis tells us whether it’s a simple fix or a sign the unit is on its way out.
Do you charge a call-out fee?
expand_more
I’ll give you a clear, honest quote first — by phone, WhatsApp or in person. There’s no call-out fee when you accept the quote and let me carry out the repair.
Lost your hot water? Let’s get it back.
Tell me what’s going on and I’ll come and take a look — usually the same day during working hours, Monday to Friday.
