What cistern & valve replacement covers
A running toilet or a weeping valve is easy to ignore — until you see the water bill. José Martín Plumbing replaces the worn parts inside the cistern and the valves around it, with quality components that put a stop to it for good.
- check_circle A toilet that runs constantly or trickles into the bowl
- check_circle The fill valve (flotador) that won’t shut off or fills slowly
- check_circle The flush valve, button or lever that sticks or leaks
- check_circle A weak or partial flush, or a noisy, whistling fill
- check_circle Shut-off and angle valves (llaves de paso) that drip, seize or won’t close
- check_circle All cistern types — close-coupled, concealed (Geberit, Roca, Grohe) and older high-level
- check_circle The whole cistern replaced when it’s cracked or beyond repair
The parts I replace
Fill valves
The inlet valve and float (flotador) that let water in and shut it off. The usual cause of a cistern that runs or fills slowly.
Flush valves & buttons
The flush mechanism, push-button or lever — replaced when the flush is weak, sticks, or the button stops working.
Shut-off & angle valves
The isolating valves (llaves de paso and escuadra) under the WC and basin — renewed when they drip, seize or won’t close.
All cistern types
Close-coupled, concealed in-wall (Geberit, Roca, Grohe) and older high-level cisterns — the right parts for each.
Signs it’s time to replace
Toilet & cistern
- Water runs constantly into the bowl
- A faint, endless trickle you can hear at night
- The cistern fills slowly, or won’t stop filling
- Noisy or whistling as it refills
- A weak flush that needs a second go
- The button or handle sticks or does nothing
Shut-off & angle valves
- A valve that drips under the WC or basin
- One that’s seized and won’t turn
- A valve that no longer fully shuts off
- Damp or limescale trails below the valve
- An old valve you daren’t touch in an emergency
Any of these? Call me — most are a quick, inexpensive fix once the worn part is replaced.
A small job, done properly
Quick & local
Most cistern and valve jobs are done in a single, short visit. Based in Fuengirola, I can usually come the same week.
Quality parts
I fit good-quality mechanisms and valves that seal properly and last — not the cheapest part that fails again in a year.
Fluent English
I’ll explain what’s worn and what I’m replacing, clearly and in your own language, with no upselling.
A clear price first
An honest quote before I start, with no call-out fee when you accept it and let me do the job.
A running toilet quietly costs you money
That constant trickle isn’t just annoying — a running toilet can quietly waste hundreds of litres of water a day, and it all shows up on your bill. As your local English-speaking plumber in Fuengirola, I’ll stop it properly:
- check_circle The wasted water stops from the day it’s fixed
- check_circle Quality parts mean it stays fixed, not a repeat call-out
- check_circle Usually only the bathroom stopcock is turned off — not the whole building’s water
If the water’s coming from somewhere you can’t see rather than the cistern, that’s a job for water leak repair.
Three Simple Steps
Call me
Tell me what it’s doing — running, slow to fill, a weak flush, a dripping valve. A photo of the cistern on WhatsApp helps.
Check & quote
I open it up, see which part has worn, and give you a clear price before any work begins. No call-out fee if you accept.
Replace & test
I fit the new mechanism or valve, adjust the water level, test the flush and check there are no leaks before I go.
Cistern & valve replacement — your questions
Why does my toilet keep running?
expand_more
It’s almost always a worn part in the cistern — usually the fill valve (float) not shutting off, or the flush valve seal letting water trickle into the bowl. Replacing the worn mechanism stops it for good, and it’s normally a quick, inexpensive job.
How much water does a running toilet waste?
expand_more
More than you’d think — a constantly running or trickling toilet can waste hundreds of litres a day, which adds up quickly on your water bill. That’s why it’s worth sorting sooner rather than later, even when it seems minor.
Do you replace concealed (in-wall) cisterns like Geberit?
expand_more
Yes — I work with all types, including concealed in-wall systems from Geberit, Roca and Grohe, close-coupled cisterns on the pan, and older high-level ones. I fit the correct parts for your specific model.
Will you need to turn off the water to the whole building?
expand_more
Normally no. It’s usually enough to close the individual stopcock in the bathroom or under the basin, so the rest of the building keeps its water. If the shut-off valve itself is the part being replaced, I’ll arrange the supply safely first.
Can you replace a worn shut-off or angle valve?
expand_more
Yes — a valve that drips, has seized, or no longer closes fully is worth replacing, especially so it works when you next need to shut the water off in a hurry. It’s a common, straightforward job.
Do you supply the parts, or do I buy them?
expand_more
Either works. I can bring good-quality parts to suit your cistern, or fit ones you’ve already bought. If I supply them, you get components I know will seal properly and last.
Toilet running or a valve dripping? Let’s stop it.
Tell me what it’s doing and I’ll come and put it right — usually the same day during working hours, Monday to Friday.
